Trail Location Map:

1. Wairakei Mountain Bike Park (Craters of the Moon):

Craters is among the regions most popular riding destinations. It boasts over 50 km of single track from grade 2 to grade 5. To find out more check out Bike Taupō's site.

You know have to become a member of Bike Taupō to ride in Craters. The subscription fee of $60 for a family for example goes to the regular maintainenace and enhancement of the trails.

Look out for signs like above to find your way or call in and purchase a map for $3 that is water proof and tear proof.

2. Great Lake Trail - we think this valued a separate page.

3. Waihaha Hut Track

This is an adventure ride of around 9-10km one way. It is fun when it is dry and technical in the wet. Best to check the longrange forecast before riding. But a fun and technical walking track.

4. Waikato Lower River Trail

Part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail this is a pretty easy mountain bike ride to take beginners and have an enjoyable day out. It can be technical in the wet. See there website for more info.

5. Pureora Timber Trail

Another New Zealand Cycle Trail Jewel. This is a fun ride for the whole family. If you want a tough day out try riding the whole thing non-stop but a better way to make a weekend of it is to stay at half way and continue the next. See there website for more info.

6. 42 Traverse

The T42 is a fun downhill in the middle of knowhere with stunning views over the Central Plateau and to Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngarauhoe. There is a good climb near the end and we recommend riding to Owhango. Be prepared as the weather changes fast here but you can get some wicked downhill on a 4wd single track.
